In a significant step toward fostering gender diversity in engineering, the Madras Export Processing Zone Special Economic Zone (MEPZ SEZ) has launched a Scholarship Drive for Women in Engineering. This initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering, fields where female enrolment remains lower compared to IT, Electronics, and Computer Science. The scholarship drive, spearheaded by Thiru. Alex Paul Menon, IAS, Development Commissioner, MEPZ SEZ, is designed to provide financial assistance and skill development opportunities, encouraging more women to explore careers in core engineering fields. As a first step, Pinnacle Infotech Solutions has pledged to sponsor 100 scholarships, each valued at ₹10,000, for girl students pursuing B.Tech in Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, Pinnacle Infotech will offer AutoCAD training, equipping students with industry-relevant skills to enhance their employability. Highlighting the significance of this initiative, Alex Paul Menon, IAS, stated: "The manufacturing sector needs greater gender balance, and it begins with creating opportunities at the source. This scholarship drive is a crucial step toward empowering women in core engineering fields. We deeply appreciate the support from entrepreneurs within the SEZ ecosystem, and we look forward to expanding this initiative further." Thiru. Bimal Patwari, Chief Executive, Pinnacle Infotech Solutions, also expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating: "As a company that thrives on innovation and talent, we recognize the importance of diversity in engineering and technology. Women bring immense value to the industry, and we are proud to support this scholarship drive to encourage more female students to pursue careers in Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering. We hope this initiative will inspire more young women to step into these fields and contribute to the growth of the manufacturing sector." With this initiative, MEPZ SEZ aims to scale up industry collaboration and secure 100 such scholarships in 2025, further strengthening its commitment to gender inclusivity in engineering education. MEPZ SEZ invites entrepreneurs, corporations, and industry leaders to join this transformative initiative, ensuring that women engineers have greater access to opportunities in India’s manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.
